I think this is good for those who are not Chinese but want to learn Chinese. A good pocket size easy to carry. I'm a Chinese I'm looking for an English - Chinese Dictionary so this doesn't fit my needs.

It has too many mistakes on Chinese Pinyin also donâ€™t have enough words for elementary school kids. Not recommend.

I teach ESL for Chinese students and this is very handy. They have pointed out some grammatical errors, and of course not ALL words are in this dictionary, but it is a helpful tool in the classroom for quick referencing.

Simple. There's a chinese to english side and a english to chinese side. Reads like a concise dictionary. Quickly gives you basic translation of a word to a character and vice versa. English to chinese side has the pinyin

This is one of my all-time favorite books. A giant of nonfiction writing, Tracy Kidder, delivers a vivid and moving account of the herculean efforts of Dr. Paul Farmer, one of the true heroes of our time, as he tirelessly fights the spread of drug-resistant TB and along the way improves the quality of life in the nation of Haiti and other communities around the world.

This book provides a glimpse not only into the medical and sociological challenges of Haiti and other impoverished regions, but into the culture of those who serve, support those who serve and in many cases obstruct those who serve. Mr. Farmer's view of all human life being worthy of an opportunity to live is refreshing in an era of global narcissism. Mr. Kidder did an exceptional job capturing Paul Farmer's character, dedication, commitment and single-minded focus, but I still came away not fully understanding what drives him at his core. This lack of understanding my be my fault as I've been trained to seek a "root cause" when I analyze a situation, in a culture where everyone has an agenda. Regardless, I applaud Mr. Farmer and the thousands of other unnamed global servants who engage on a life level helping those who most need help.

I had this book for a long time before reading it. When I would think of reading Mountains Beyond Mountains, I felt challenged. Actually that is a good thing as I understood how difficult Dr. Farmer's causes were and how dedicated and influential he was. I learned a lot about TB and other diseases prevalent in other places and how difficult but necessary the treatments are. The broad funding requirements, the political dance, the education of others besides caring for patients made the PIH so crusty and difficult. Still with dedication and energy much has been accomplished is several critical places. The world owes a great debt to Dr. Paul Farmer and others who dedicate their lives to caring for those who don't have the means or ability to help themselves.

Thank you Tracy Kidder. It was hard to put this book down. I felt as if I'd walked every mile with Paul Farmer through remote mountain villages where he helped people suffering from maladies that took root in the midst of poverty, isolation and lack of knowledge. Reading this story, my takeaway was this: When we do have occasion to meet people like Dr. Farmer, we are fortunate if we recognize we are in the presence of someone who is living out his or her mission without holding back. Passionately, tirelessly and with perseverance. Deserving of our gratitude and support. Kidder does an admirable job by providing an accurate and respectfully written portrayal of Dr. Farmer with the power to inspire others to follow in his footsteps.

I had to read this book for school summer work so of course I went into it not having high hopes, but it ended up being one of the most educational and eye opening nonfiction stories I ave ever read. There were many life lessons that I learned throughout the novel and many lessons dealing with world medical history, racism, diversity, politics, and the issue of poverty in the world.

Tracy Kidder is the master journalist, like a clear window on the world. Long ago I read The Soul of a New Machine and liked it, but didn't think too much about it. The brilliance of Kidder's style is so make you feel like you are there, really feel what the subject is about, without any distortion positive or negative.What an amazing subject for this work: Dr. Paul Farmer. This guy is just amazing! As a college student, he travels to Haiti to dedicate himself to the poor. He attends Harvard while spending 8 months a year in Haiti building his own hospital there. He gets a PhD in Anthropology at the same time he gets his MD, the latter not surprising given that he already has 6 years of intense clinical experience dealing directly with life and death situations. You would expect such a person to take on airs, maybe be a big proud of himself, maybe even be motivated by the 'big bucks' so clearly available in a rich city. Dr. Farmer appears to be vying for a "saint" award. Kidder makes you feel like you are there sitting in the same room, and it is no big deal.To say this book is inspiring is badly understating it. Look at what you can do if you hold true to your ideals! It is humbling as well. Dr. Farmer is my age, and I can't help drawing parallels with my own life, and there is no way I could do a fraction of what he is done. Yet I don't need to: it is satisfying to know that there are people like him in the world.There is so much to learn from the book. Never give in, and never give up! His daily accomplishments are so small, and yet at the same time so profound and consistent. It is all about "caring". If you care about your friends, your neighbors, your family, and - yes - the rest of the world, how can you not love a person who literally saves people on a daily basis? Are we seeing a saint walking among us? One has to wonder.This is a story that needs to be told. It reminds me a lot of Three Cups of Tea. If only we could motivate others to do the same -- if only we could motivate ourselves to do the same -- the world could be a better place. How refreshing to read about a real superhero.While continuing to work in Haiti, he started to investigate Lima Peru, where there was a disturbing trend: people with Tuberculosis that was resistant to 4, maybe even 5 of the top antibiotics. He goes there and finds that in general Peru is competently following a program in strict accordance to WHO standards. The problem was the WHO guidelines! How to raise this issue without alienating the world's most important health organization, or the officials in Peru. At the same time, what can be done about drugs with inflated costs putting them out of reach of these poor patients?His travels take him to the prisons in Russia, which has a an extreme problem with TB as well. Prisoners are easy to study and monitor. He points out that the prisons are like a pump that cycles TB into the general population with prisoners who stay a few years and bring the disease back with him. You almost cheer when he gets a grant from the Gates foundation to develop a modified procedure to battle MDR-TB.He does not do any of this all by himself. There are a lot of truly dedicate people who recognize his talent and follow/help him all along the way. Kidder manages to capture many of these people as well. At still, Farmer's real talent is to be the catalyst that makes it all come together. It might be better to say it all flows around him...In the end, his success is due to one simple talent, and he says it best in his own words: "I like people." It is hard not to like him back.

This is a Good Picture book, great for the coffee table.It's as stated on the cover; An Inspiring Collection of International Art Work, full of photos showing a multitude of ideas and techniques. There is no instruction or information in this book, photos only.I'm Looking forward to getting some of the other 500 series. Even though you can access a wealth of information on the web, this book may inspire someone else to try working with clay if left out for viewing.It gives one several ideas to create their own materpiece/s!I have recently started hand build classes with clay, and am working on my own tiles. This is an inspirational book. Well done!

Bought it, received it, and now I am in awe with the wealth of creativity contained into this little 'package'. Very good quality printing, each of the pictures has the description of material, type of kiln, cone fired at and technique, maximum 20 words for each of the 500 pictures. It's a publication to inspire any artist or art lover. Don't expect to have ANY step by step HOW TO other than wonderful inspiration and food for the sould and eyes!!! I had this title on my wish list for a couple of years now, I'm glad I ordered and can't wait to dive more and more into it. I'm sure if the publisher had a couple of more pictures it would sell much more. Enjoy.

This book is a bounty of styles and artistic ideas for what tiles could and may become, with an open mind and some creative techniques. As a beginning ceramicist, this is exactly the sort of thing I was looking for; as I wanted to break out of the traditional 4x4 square and make something wholly unconventional. I wasn't sure if my ideas would work, but after seeing what others have done I am inspired to make my dreams a reality. Thanks to books like these, I can let my imagination run wild and my only limit will be time and creativity.

Amazing representation of styles--for those looking for inspiration and going outside the box, this book will give you everything you need. It will be a long serving reference book as I continue to find my voice in clay. The 500 series has never disappointed!

Great book. Love all the color photos. The problem with having entries juried by a small group is that there are a lot of things that look alike.

This is the first order from Amazon that I did not receive an invoice. There was no paperwork in the box along with the 2 books I purchased. This book had a crease on the front cover. I did like the contents of the book. It is very informative and I enjoyed the 500 tiles and the information regarding each.

A thrill on every page! I gave it a four star rating as some of the photography is not good. Otherwise, a reference for inspiration in all my work, not just clay, but surface design, be it textiles, printmaking, metalwork. Thank you!

A disappointing selection of tiles. The title is misleading ... the book does not show an inspiring collection at all.

We ordered this book as a Christmas present! Our daughter loves this book! She is throughly enjoying it, every day.

When I first heard about this book, I was thrilled, and I ran out to buy it the day it was released. While the first Lodges book focused mostly on Tribal Lodges, this book instead shows how Lodges can be adapted to different cultures, ideas, religions and places, giving a more local flavor to Werewolf: the Forsaken. Although there are a few Tribal Lodges presented in this book, most are multi-Tribal and very different from mainstream Uratha society. 22 new Lodges are presented from the far corners of the world - India, Germany, Poland, Japan, Antarctica, Africa, Mexico, Australia, France, Italy, the Middle East and beyond. Many hold beliefs or goals that put them at odds with more conservative or traditional Uratha, making them great antagonists, but they also can work as PCs too. And with a little work, they can be adapted to suit almost any chronicle. After an opening fiction, focusing on the Uratha of Bangladesh, and the obligatory introduction, we are treated to short write-ups of all the Lodges. My thoughts as follows,* Armee Sauvage - Born out of the second World War, this Lodge of French Ghost Wolves tries to deal with supernatural fall out of human attrocities. A very interesting take on the Uratha's relations with human conflict, as well as showing how a Ghost Wolf Lodge works.* Brotherhood of Eshu's Cap - A Lodge of African Hunters in Darkness who use stealth and trickery to protect important people, places and objects (including the Ark of the Covenant in Ethiopia!). Some very nasty examples of their work are included. Very cool to finally see an African Lodge, since the "Dark Continent" has gotten little coverage in Werewolf. Alternatively, you could easily transport them to the Caribbean via Yoruba faiths like Santeria and Candomble, which include Eshu in their pantheons.* Lodge of the Sacred Thread - Indian Storm Lords who consider themselves to be of the Kshatriya caste, the warriors and kings of the Uratha. A very interesting cultural take on the Tribes, and once again it's great to see the Indian subcontinent get covered since Werewolf has had little coverage of South Asia.* Lodge of 66 - Iron Masters who patrol the legendary Route 66, protecting it from the Pure. Nomadic werewolf packs made up of truckers and biker gangs! Very cool idea!* Lodge of the Black Woods - A multi-Tribal Lodge born out of a regional alliance to protect the Germany's Schwartzwald, members of this Lodge can also be in other Lodges as well. Kind of like Max Roman's dream of uniting the Uratha in the Rockies.* Lodge of the Endless Moon - A mostly Ghost Wolf Lodge based in Asia (particularly Japan) that seeks to placate and appease spirits through rituals. Besides being another interesting take on Asian Uratha, this Lodge can easily be adapted to other cultures and regions with a little work.* Lodge of the Fallen Idol - Another interesting but unusual take on werewolves, this multi-Tribal Lodge seeks to topple human religions. They aren't really atheists, as they interact with the spirit world as much as any Uratha, but they see human religion as flawed. Of course, they themselves are fanatics after a fashion too. Their signature character, Noach Weidenseld, was mostly crippled by a terrorist bombing and spends most of his time communicating through the internet. A very unique character for Werewolf.* Lodge of the Firestick - A multi-Tribal Lodge that controls and directs bush fires, the Lodge of the Firestick draws upon the culture and beliefs of the Australian Aborigines. Quite a good example at mixing human mythology with the spirit world of the Uratha, and it works very well.* Lodge of the Hungry Ghosts - Another Japanese Lodge, these Bone Shadows practice strange rituals to bring balance between the spirit world and the world of flesh. Unfortunately, they are likely to help spirits and come into conflict with other Uratha. At the very least, they are strange and frightening. I loved this write-up, and plan on including them in one of my upcoming chronicles. And the signature character, Kachi-Kachi, reminds me of something out of a Japanese horror film.* Lodge of Ilia - Born out of Imperial Rome, this mostly Iron Master Lodge seeks to survive and adapt to the spiritual landscape of the city. Another urban Lodge, but this one has a more cultural/mythological background than the ones we saw in other books.* Lodge of Kletby - Hailing from Czechoslovakia, all members of this multi-Tribal Lodge suffer from curses. Because of this, they seek to study, master and break curses. They practice a unique Rite which allows them to extend the powers and effects of Gifts into ritual curses.* Lodge of the Lake - This multi-Tribal Lodge watches over a slumbering Maeljin beneath the ice of Antarctica, and have unknowingly been corrupted by their own pride. Members are slowly becoming Bale Hounds without knowing it. Theres a very creepy, Lovecraftian feel to this Lodge.* Lodge of the Lost - An ancient prophecy said that members of this Lodge would all die fighting a great darkness, but they defeated it and some members survived. Now, members of this spiritually dead multi-Tribal Lodge struggle to find new meaning and purpose. Very interesting concept, and open to interpretation by Storytellers.* Lodge of the Modernist - Another odd concept, this European Lodge of Bone Shadows studies the power of human language. The idea is very philosophical, and actually reminds me alot of my Linguistics classes, but I liked it. Another unusual take on Werewolf's themes.* Lodge of the Red Sands - One of my favorites, this multi-Tribal Lodge seeks to master survival in the desert wastes of North Africa, the Middle East and other harsh lands. Their Totem (Red Beast King) reminds me of the Egyptian god Set, which is appropriate since he was the god of deserts and wild animals. And I LOVE the signature character of Jurgurtha Lion-Eater, a Tuareg warrior. A bit stereotypical perhaps, but still cool.* Lodge of the Rose - A Blood Talon Lodge that strives to live up to human concepts of honor, chivalry and the way of the warrior. Members of this Lodge follow Noble Griffin, and not even supernatural powers can stop them from fulfilling their oathes. Quite a different take from the "berserker warrior" stereotype frequent to the Tribe.* Lodge of Scars - A multi-Tribal Lodge made up of the strongest and wisest elder Uratha, who seek to contribute their strength, wisdom and experience to the struggles of the Forsaken. A very cool concept for old Uratha who want to go out with a bang, like true heroes.* Lodge of Songkran - Born in the jungles of Thailand, this multi-Tribal Lodge seeks to liberate those trapped by slavery, poverty and addiction. I thought this was an interesting take on how Uratha relate to human problems, especially given the horrors of drug smuggling and sex trafficking in the Golden Triangle. Alternatively, their strict ideals can also bring them into conflict with other, less noble Uratha.* Lodge of the Storm's Eye - Drawn from the Native American cultures of Mexico and South America (the Maya, Aztec, Inca and such), this multi-Tribal Lodge seeks to bind evil spirits beneath the earth. Another great example of mixing human myths with Uratha spirituality, especially since they showed how different influences affect the Lodge in different areas (their Totem is known as Quetzalcoatl or Kukulcan in Mexico, but Viracocha in Peru, for instance). I like to think of it as a redux of the Uktena from Werewolf: the Apocalypse, and plan on using them in my upcoming chronicles. Also, good to get a taste of what might be in store for us in Shadows of Mexico.* Lodge of the Thin Shadow - A multi-Tribal European Lodge that work like elite secret agents. Secretive and elusive, they have slowly been loosing their grip on international politics (as the book pretty much outright says) but it's a great way to inject some good old fashioned Cold War-era paranoia into your games. And the signature character, Tess Nelson, is quite interesting (and not overpowered, despite being a CIA-agent). Good example of how to balance human jobs with life as one of the Forsaken.* Lodge of the Union - An open, multi-Tribal Lodge that seeks to unite everything. Flesh and spirit, the entire world, everything. A very young and idealistic Lodge, but their Totem seems to be the embodiment of Pangea itself!* Lodge of the Willow Branch - A multi-Tribal Polish Lodge dedicated to hunting down and slaying vampires at all costs. Their fanaticism is likely to cause many problems for both Uratha and Kindred, but they are definately fun.So yeah, 22 brand spanking new Lodges from across the world. It's a great taste of the many ways that human culture and beliefs can change the Uratha in different places. Many of the Lodges work just as well for PCs as they do for antagonists, and their backgrounds give good ways of integrating them into chronicles for either (the Lodge of the Willow Branch could easily start a conflict between local Uratha and vampires, while the Lodge of the Hungry Ghosts are as likely to ally with spirits as they are to fight them). Best of all, the introduction includes some useful notes for changing the Lodges to make them better suit other locales or ideas. For instance, the Lodge of 66 could be transported to Germany's autobahn, the Lodge of the Rose could be made to focus on bushido or omerta, and the Lodge of the Red Sands could be transported to Australia's Outback, the Gobi in Mongolia, or the American Southwest. So pretty much any of the Lodges could easily be tweaked to fit in with your chronicles, and to surprise players.If you plan on running a Werewolf game set beyond the US, or just want to add a different take on the Uratha (perhaps drawing upon human myths, cultures and history, or perhaps just incorporating something else entirely) then this book is almost essential. I strongly recommend checking this book out, especially in conjunction with Shadows of the UK, which gave a very good overview of the Uratha in the UK (as well as some mention of South Asian Uratha too). Both are great books for expanding Uratha into a more international setting.

I'm not quite sure how I feel about this book, it was a little too predictable. I was able to predict everything that was going to happen before it happened, the story line was a little too familiar too. I'm giving it 4 stars and I will buy the 2nd book just to see how everything plays out but I won't continue if there is another book after the second one. I think this story can definitely be wrapped up in two books.

I swear the way this story flowed was perfect, I loved this history between Rain and Theory, it's like they never left..I understand Lani was upset but getting Rain fired was low... I hope they make it to him in time...

This is one my favorite stories by KC. I just absolutely love Rain and Theoryâ€™s love story.

I can't wait for part 2 !!! I soooo loved Rain and Theory's bond!!! I hope they find out who's gunning for Theory and I hope they tag Lani's A**!!!! Minus the little errors it was on pointe loved the way the story line flowed!!!!

I loved this story. I loved the fact that Theory had Rain back no matter what. I loved Diamond and how her rain became friend. I'm on my way to part 2 because I know Theory doesn't go out like that.

This author is moving up the list fast. She's put these story lines out every month. I can't wait until part 2 of Rain & Theory. Definitely a second chance romance.

This story right here had every element that you could think of to make it complete. It was like a superb pot of gumbo, with just the right amount of handsome hero, sexy heroine, humorous supporting cast and the right dosage if intrigue, drama, and heartache; all equaling up to a big ole pot of "Literary Excellence!". As always Ms. Mills in all of her professionalism knocked another homerun out of the park. She gave us just enough of Theory and Rain's back story to slowly but surely draw us in, and right when you thought you could put the book down and get some work done around the house and return to reading the rest later on, she threw out another lure that trapped you into her literary world hook, line, and sinker. First of all how creative was it of her to use the names Theory and Rain. Either way you put it you get the true meaning of their relationship and the depth of their feelings just by saying their names, RAIN'S THEORY and THEORY'S RAIN!!! In a nutshell with two words she conveyed to the reader that she was his and he was hers. Such depth and thought that was invoked from just this point alone. Rain struck as being the more damaged of the two. While they both grew up under horrific circumstances, Rain made it out and had the luxury of being adopted by a family who loved her and wanted what was best for her. In spite of this she carried scars that did not allow her to connect with others like the average person and she was never able to fully give herself to Jamel because she wasn't complete without Theory. He held the other half of her soul and only he had the sacred key to unlock the impenetrable wall she had erected around her heart. I know I am all in my feelings with this review but this is the level of thought provoking meditation that Ms. Mills was effortlessly able to pull out of me. I cannot express how much I absolutely loved this book and believe me when I say if I could give this book 100 stars I would without hesitation!!! I look forward to learning more about Diamond, Niles, and Frank. Hopefully Detroit Washington will turn out to be an upstanding man and recognize the wrongs that he has perpetrated on behalf of his spoiled brat imbecilic daughter!!! I don't see Alex slinking her stinky weave wearing behind away quietly and Jamel strikes me as the type that could turn into a obsessive stalker. The only bad thing that I can say about Rain is the fact that she used Jamel and strung him along when she knew that her heart would never belong to him. As a result of this she will probably have an uphill battle trying to completely disentangle herself from this jelly back man. Again overall this was SUPERB, EXCELLENT, PERFECTION AT ITS BEST!!!!! GO GET IT, GO GET IT, GO GET IT!!!!! YOU WILL NIT BE DISAPPOINTED!!!!!
