Based on some of the earlier reviews here, I was expecting to read a book that was revolutionary in the way it presented the philosophy of Luciferianism. What I found instead was a book rife with spelling errors, punctuation and grammar mistakes along with a "philosophy" that is nothing new if you've read the likes of Crowley, Spare, etc. I got a little over halfway through the book (in one sitting) before I decided I just couldn't take it anymore.I couldn't believe that an organization (the GCOL) that is trying to be taken seriously would release this as their introductory text. It felt like my old middle school friends and I decided to start a church and wrote a book. You may find a couple of interesting tidbits regarding the mythology of Lucifer but the mistakes make it so hard to read that it's not worth your trouble. I really hope that the GCOL at least invests in a decent editor for the next version of this book.
This is a very poorly written book with some good ideas. Yes, the ideas are good, but it's an absolute torture to read this book. There are grammatical errors literally every other sentence. I do not think the author did any revision at all. There aren't just complex grammatical errors that only an English professor would notice. There are also errors so simple that even an elementary school student would notice them. That's why I think the author simply did not revise the book at all. It looks like a first draft. I really can't emphasize enough how bad the writing is. It's unreadable.
Very repetitive, poor grammar, uncalled for insults to hipsters which strikes me as just plain weird.Book could have been written in about 40 pages tops.
Very disappointed. I was excited to read this, but it's hard to take a manifesto seriously when it is RIDDLED with spelling errors and typos. I'm sorry, don't publish something without proof reading it first. Amateur hour.
The book, itself, was very informative, yet still left many subjects unaddressed. It is a good starting point for any practitioners, but it also tends to come across repetitive. The best way to summarize this book is to think of a more logical approach to Anton LaVey's The Satanic Bible. The idea of indulgence is repeated, as it is in LaVey's book, but it also stresses practicality. However, at times the book will contradict itself. For example, the authors acknowledge that some practitioners believe in Lucifer, or any of the deific masks, as actual entities, and they will say that it is valid if it is the individual's belief. However, they will also stress that there are no deities, and they belittle the idea of any Luciferian believing in such a way. Other subjects, such as the New Luciferian Era, were briefly touched upon, but never fully explained. At the same time, there are some subjects that I feel are explained too much. Michael Ford's books are quoted and referred to several times, mostly by himself. This seems to make the book feel more like a glorified commercial for Michael Ford and the Greater Church of Lucifer. The very numerous grammatical errors do make this a difficult read. There are many sentences that get repeated, and some misplaced words here and there. Overall, I would say that it is worth a read, but bear in mind that the majority of this book is common sense.
I read one or two chapters and couldn't go further. From what I've read, it's nothing new or ground breaking. I'm going to give it one more try, and I'm pinching myself to force myself to be more open minded than usual but if I get the same impression, I am going to turn around and re-sell this book. The problem I have with this book, along with so many neo-occult books is that it spends too much time talking about liberating people's minds from Christianity, or backing up philosophy with historical lessons or references; more so than spells, incantations, the author's personal experiences with their own work and so forth. People want power, not regurgitated drivel.
Not as clever as it seems. Some details on ancient religions, but no historical references. Some shards of philosohy, but mainly the same individualist crap you could find in every self-enhancement program. The only amusing thing is the "lightbringer" metaphor, wich lead to the same goal as 18th century Enlightment philosophers: end of dogmatism by free thinking. But if you like this, read Rousseau, Hume, Diderot or Montesquieu instead. Boring as hell.
Interesting intro for absolute beginners although yes, it does get repetitive and skips about from topic to topic and back to the original topic again....and I'm sorry Michael, but the "poor poor pitiful me" railings against xtianity get very tiresome. Get over it already dude.
