When I bought this I thought there might be parts explosion diagrams (they have an electrical system rundown in the back, why not the rest?) for various sections as well as basic repair steps. It basically lists steps for several basic and intermediate repairs for your vehicle. Some things like shocks and brakes it recommends you get a professional to check them out afterwards (maybe they would charge less?). I have watched too many internet videos to find this book overly useful. Maybe 25 years ago this would be your best option but the internet has better options. I guess blue collar work still needs to be mysterious and magical or customers wouldn't overpay for it.
I have been using Haynes manuals for a long time but a family member recommended Chilton's manuals. So I bought this one for my 2005 Matrix. The rear brake drum assemblies are completely different. I don't know if GM used a different one and that's what's in the picture but it wasn't very helpful and I had to figure it out on my own which was not fun. I don't know if the Haynes one is better because I haven't bought it yet but I think that the last thing that I want a service manual to do is to send me looking for another.
If you are rebuilding the engine I guess this would be good. I wanted to replace a vacuum motor in the heater system. Nothing about this stuff in the book. Not very good for the " shade tree mechanic".
It has turned out to be quite useful, but do agree with some others however, it seems that they cut some corners when writing this book. It is however essential to have, or a better quality shop manual to work on a car. I rated it based on price vs. usefulness.
I can't comment on the quality of the instructions in this manual because I never opened it. I purchased it to use with my Vibe GT, but (fortunately) read the back cover before removing the shrink wrap. I was highly disappointed to read this sentence near the bottom of the back cover:"Does not include information specific to all-wheel drive models, Matrix XRS models or Vibe GT models." Oh well.[...]I'm just disappointed that the product description on the website wasn't more precise.
it's got a good guidelines and steps to follow to those who need a step by step procedures. But I suggest you take some basic Auto mechanic classes to get a better understand of a vehicle first. It just makes more sense when you know what your getting into first.
Five stars so far, have not had a chance to use it on my sons car yet.
Very easy to read and understand. Made it easy to fix a few minor things on my Vibe that would have cost me a LOT at dealer! Paid for itself!
