Mr. Foster absolutely blew the doors off with this one. All of his work is outstanding and extremely readable but I think this could be his finest.This book is defiantly a must read for anyone with an interest in automotive history regardless of brand preference. It also connects many of the dots pertaining to Jeep history. Get one before they are sold out.

Finally a book devoted to Willys Motors and not totally Jeep.
The word ‘Illustrated†in the title should be a warning to potential buyers. It means lots of big pictures from company brochures and press releases and not much text. This is a compact size coffee table book with lower quality photos.The author does a poor job of answering the two questions I was most interested in - How did Willys go from second place in the market to near bankruptcy in 1922? How did the Aero Willys compare to the other compacts from Nash and Kaiser in the early 1950s?This book is more like a business case study for an MBA class assignment that a book for readers interested in the history of the auto industry. There is too much discussion of tooling amortization, holding companies, inventory revaluation, and tax loss carry forward. There is too little about competitive products, market share, engine designs, etc. You can almost see the author sitting at his desk with a pile of annual reports, searching for nuggets of information. The author suggests that the 1920 Overland Four failed in the market because of inflation. Apparently the rest of the industry was unaffected by this problem.More than one third of the book focuses on military Jeeps and their descendants. While they are an integral part of the company history, this part of the company history is available in great detail in numerous other books and magazine articles. Another rehash is of limited value.
I gave this book to my husband as a gift and he loves it cos he loves reading about the history of Jeep Willy's.
